Magic 104's Olympic Weekend

A couple of weeks ago as The Winter Olympic Games were ending in Italy, The Magic Morning Show with Tony Smith & Shelli Summers asked listeners what the city of Moncton could do for Gold Medal curler Russ Howard when he got back from the games. One listener suggested we fly the whole team over from Newfoundland for the party...so that's what we did! Friday afternoon Magic 104 flew Olympic Gold Medallists Team Gushue in from Newfoundland to celebrate with their teammate Russ Howard who lives in New Brunswick. The visit started with nearly 500 fans greeting them at Moncton International Airport. Then a parade down Main Street, Moncton to a raucous reception at City Hall. Later the guys got the VIP treatment with a swanky Mayors reception where they found out that the city is naming a section of road after Russ Howard and erecting a huge granite curling monument with the team's faces etched on the rock. They finished Friday off with the Rob Thomas concert at Moncton Coliseum. Saturday morning hundreds greeted the team at The Beausejour Curling Club for a champagne brunch and then in was off to The Bay for a two hour autograph session. More than 1000 people showed up at Highfield Square to get pictures and flags signed by the curlers. Finally it was back to the curling club for a huge pizza party and to watch the gold medal game. They flew out Sunday and probably had a big sleep on the plane ride back to Newfoundland and Labrador. Whatta weekend! Thanks to our corporate sponsors for helping us to make the whole thing possible...CanJet, Holiday Inn Express, Club Beausejour & The City Of Moncton. Magic 104 was proud to make it possible for our listeners to meet the Olympic Champions!
