Daffodilly Melanie

A field report from our Afternoon Host Melanie Sampson!

I had the pleasure of attending the 2nd Annual Daffodil Ball on Saturday, March 24th, at the Delta Beausejour. This night is a major fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society, and what a wonderful night it was! The evening got underway with some welcoming words from Allen Murray, CCS NB Division President, and Executive Director, Anne McTiernan- Gamble. And when Lisa Merrithew, took the podium as Daffodil Ball Chairperson, it was clear to me, this night would be special. Lisa's words were inspiring and heartfelt. Thank-you, Lisa, for telling your family's story. The crowd that filled the beautifully decorated ballroom at the Delta then heard from the guest of Honor, the Honourable Greg Thompson, P.C., M.P., Minister of Veterans Affairs. Mr. Thompson is a cancer survivor, and his story touched the hearts of everyone in the room. Then, the moment we were all waiting for... the glorious meal! 5 courses prepared by the Delta staff... 5 mouth-watering courses. (Don't ask what the food was... I could barely pronounce the names, I just know it was delicious!)

Goose and I were seated with a fun group from Moosehead Breweries (Hello to Aileen, Andy, Lise, and Mitch... and Johan of ACS Formals!). Throughout the evening, we were entertained by harpist, Dorothy Jolanta Brezicki, Ensemble Adelaide, and La Musica Dolce. After dinner, the dance floor was filled with guests who could give the crew on Dancing With The Stars a run for their money any day! Guests generously bought tickets on some wonderful prizes that included a trip to Cuba, spa getaways, and jewellry... no trip to Cuba for me, but the CCS greatly appreciated the funds raised through ticket sales! A painting by Alexandrya Eaton - "Fifty Daffodils" was auctioned, also raising funds for the CCS.

Then... just when we though our tummies and hearts were full... Aileen discovered mountains of fresh strawberries in the reception area with plenty of melted chocolate to dip them in. The only words I can use to describe the moments that followed are, "pure bliss!" Around midnight, it was time to say our farewells and head home. Goose and I left the Delta with smiles (and probably some chocolate) on our faces... having made new friends and great memories at the 2nd Annual Daffodil Ball!

See you at Relay for Life, proudly supported by Magic 104, on June 8th and 9th!

Cheers! (and sorry for the blurry pics)

Mel
